Selfie Sticks Banned on Attractions and Rides at Disney World

Selfie Sticks Banned on Attractions and Rides at Disney World

Good news from Disney World for those who are annoyed with guests using selfie sticks on attractions and rides.  It has been officially announced that selfie sticks are banned on attractions and rides at Walt Disney World.

As the video below points out that this is not necessarily a new policy as it has always been Disney’s policy that guests should securely stow all equipment and loose items when on attractions and rides including transportation such as trams and boats.

The selfie stick had become a problem at Disney World as it gave guests the ability to interfere with other guests view of rides and attractions.  The camera itself has been a problem for many guests as it distracted from the show by other guests using them in inappropriate times such as in dark attractions.  The selfie sticks allowed guests to put their bright screened camera phones further into the view of guests trying to enjoy the attraction.

You may still use selfie sticks in the parks but you are not allowed to use them on rides or other attractions that might interfere with the show for other guests.  If you are going to use a selfie stick just remember to think of those around you and how it might affect their experience as well as when taking a picture in general.  On dark attractions make sure to turn your flash off and if you can turn your screen off.  Try to be as respectful as possible to those around you so that everyone can have the opportunity to enjoy the magic of Walt Disney World.

The fact is Selfie Sticks Banned on Attractions and Rides at Disney World is not because Disney does not want you to bring home wonderful pictures but it is because it takes away from other guests experiences and kills the magic for most.  I think that is something that people should have thought of and used their selfie sticks respectfully in the first place but since they did not I am glad Disney has stepped up to set the guide lines to keep the magic as magical as possible.
