If I had to pick the 2 Best Times of the Year for 2018

Personally for the best 2 times of the year for 2018 I would choose somewhere between April 23rd – May 4th or November 5th – November 16th. I’m predicting that these 2 times of the year will be the best time to go to Walt Disney World with a mix of low crowds and terrfic weather. (The November dates are based on when the Food and Wine Festival ends. Since those dates have not been announced yet I’m making a best guess based on thinking the Food and Wine Festival will end on Sunday November 4th 2018.)

Breakdown of Crowds at Walt Disney World for 2018

This list can be looked at either as the best or the worst time to go to Walt Disney World. During events Disney gets much busier than usual. Anytime there is an event or holiday even as small as a 3 day weekend you should expect to see a spike in crowds.

Spring Break & Easter Crowds at Walt Disney World for March and April

March at Walt Disney World is a month I generally recommend to avoid altogether. Besides spring break there are other non-Disney events in Florida that draw large crowds to the surrounding areas which seems to also have an impact on the crowds at Disney. I think there are many people who come down for those other events like Daytona Bike Week and decide that since they are so close they might as well spend some time at Walt Disney World too.

This year it looks like the bulk of colleges will be done with their spring breaks by March 25th however there are still a handful of colleges that are on Spring Break until April 1st 2018. Being that Easter is April 1st you will have some leftover crowds the first week of April finishing out spring breaks and Easter Celebration vacationers.

That following week after Easter I predict you will see a decent drop in crowds. Easter Sunday will be busy. The Monday after Easter, April 2nd 2018, you will see a slight drop in crowds in the parks due to people traveling home that day. Walt Disney World as a whole will likely be busy still though. Disney Springs will be busy as it seems to be a lot of people’s last Disney location to visit before they head to the airport. By Tuesday April 3rd 2018 I predict the crowds will be down enough that if you can’t wait any longer to visit Disney then that would be a good first day to avoid massive crowds. There will still be some crowds but wait times should be down enough that it won’t feel so bad.

If you want the absolute best time to visit Walt Disney World this spring then aim your vacation for any time on or after Monday April 9th 2018. This gives Disney a full week to clear out all the spring breakers that are either taking a long one or have a later spring break than most as well as the Easter crowds.

April 9th till the middle of May is a good time to go to Walt Disney World. Most families do not want to take their kids out of school during that time because for one they just had spring break and for two the school year is almost over

Summertime is busy everyday

With kids on summer break from school the summer is always busy. From around the end of May till end of August you can bet Disney is going to be packed everyday.

If you can I would avoid going to Walt Disney World in the summer if at all possible. If there is no way around it for your family and you have to go during summer vacation and want lower crowds. Then I would avoid going near the 4th of July.

For the best summer crowds aim for the following weeks: May 19th – May 25th, June 2nd – June 8th, August 11th – Augst 25th.

While these weeks will still be busy they tend to be less busy due to fluxuations in summer break start and end times for various schools. Basically once all schools are out for summer break till all schools are back to school in the fall you should expect Walt Disney World to be crowded.

Fall / Winter / Holiday Crowds at Walt Disney World in 2018

There are some great events that Disney puts on in the fall. Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are the top three events that draw more crowds to Walt Disney World. I recommend these events however fot the 2 parties there is an extra fee to be aware of. The Food and Wine Festival is free to with Epcot entrance ticket you just pay for what you eat and drink.

If you want to avoid the crowds in the fall / winter season you will want to look at the end of August or beginning of September to start. This is a low time in crowds due to people not wanting to take their kids out of school that early in the school year especially since summber vacation just ended too most don’t take a vacation so close to that break.

Other good times to go to Walt Disney World with low crowds in the Fall are to just work around holidays. Stay away from 3 day weekends like labor day, columbus day, veterans day etc. The days leading up to, during and shortly after will cause a spike in crowds. Stay away from really all holidays to beat the crowds. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New years you will want to avoid. You may think Halloween wont be so bad however Florida gets very busy around that time of year because all at the same time you Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Universal Studios Hollywood Horror Nights draws a big crowd which affects Disney’s crowds as well.

In my personal experience I have found that if you go down the weekend that the Food and Wine Festival ends and stay the following week or so you get to enjoy the Food and Wine Festival on the weekend it ends and then the following week Florida empties out big time. You have all 3 events that draw huge crowds come to an end at the same time and then there is a week or so break in between Halloween events and when the Christmas events start. This is my favorite time to go. Low crowds and great weather!

Events at Walt Disney World for 2018

These events will make Walt Disney World more crowded however you get to enjoy the events. If you plan your vacation right and go towards the end of an event you can enjoy the event for a couple days and then enjoy the parks as they become less crowded in the following days.
